The phrase of the moment, Na Dem Dey Rush Us inspires a song, finally. In the rein of Blaqbonez’s Melanin Melody and Aramide’s Emeka, Gbèngá drops a song entirely built upon the phrase.

For one, we’ve never heard of the act before and making the decision to kick start a career upon the shoulders of a trend could be an expertly demonstrated marketing move or just…a stupid one.

Gbèngá does well enough to wean his song of the expected comedic mimicry. Instead, he goes on to deliver a soft R n’ B rendition to the listener. Employing amongst his talents, a sultry voice and relatable lyrics, is the structure of the song Na Dem Dey Rush Us. It doesn’t scream out at you: I’m a Nigerian Pop song, surely I could succumb to lower standards!

Instead, the final second of the song brings you to the reality that we’ve been treated to a well handled cover which doesn’t dwell upon the popularity of its originality.  Impressive debut , Gbèngá .
